A disturbing incident unfolded in Ugwuachara, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, as a middle-aged man was apprehended by local residents for allegedly engaging in sexual activity with a mentally ill woman in broad daylight on Sunday evening.
According to eyewitness Emeka John, who spoke to 9NEWS NIGERIA, the man had reportedly been engaging in the act repeatedly, raising suspicions among locals.
“Every evening, the guy would pass here, and the mad woman would follow him. So, we began monitoring him and decided to follow him today,” Emeka said.
He narrated that the villagers caught the man in the act, and when they attempted to separate him from the woman, she became aggressive, complicating the situation.
“Only for us to see him on top of the mad woman, having sex with her. When we tried to separate them, the woman became aggressive,” he added.
The man was swiftly detained by the community members, who stated their intention to hand him over to the appropriate security authorities.
As of the time this report was filed, efforts to get an official statement from the Ebonyi State Police Command were unsuccessful.
The incident has sparked outrage in the community, with many calling for a thorough investigation and legal action to ensure justice for the vulnerable woman.
