As controversy continues to swirl around allegations of sexual misconduct involving Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a Nigerian journalist and media activist, Maazi Obinna Oparaku Akuwudike, has made explosive claims against self-styled activist Sandra Duru, also known as “Prof Mgbeke.”

Speaking on Adeola Fayehun’s YouTube programme on Monday, May 12, 2025, Obinna alleged that Sandra Duru offered him ₦2.5 million to produce a series of defamatory video documentaries aimed at tarnishing Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s image. According to him, the assignment included producing media content with a musical background to subtly discredit the senator. He initially accepted the job, believing it to be a routine professional project, but later withdrew after discovering what he called Duru’s “deliberate and malicious lies.”
Allegations of Blackmail and Falsehood
Obinna described Sandra Duru as a serial blackmailer known for extorting millions of naira from high-profile Nigerians. He also claimed that she previously targeted a former Deputy Governor of Imo State using similar tactics.
According to him, Duru falsely claimed in a livestream that Senator Natasha had admitted there was no sexual harassment and that the allegations against Senate President Akpabio were fabricated. Duru further alleged that Natasha had paid Dr. Oby Ezekwesili and the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) to defend her. Obinna dismissed the claims as “pure fiction.”
Alleged Ethnic Incitement and Audio Misrepresentation
Obinna revealed that a turning point for him was a livestream by Duru, in which she claimed to have audio proof of Senator Natasha making anti-Yoruba remarks. Upon reviewing the audio, Obinna said there was no such content, accusing Duru of intentionally misrepresenting the recording to provoke ethnic tensions.
“She twisted the message to incite the Yoruba against Natasha,” he said.
He also referenced a voice recording played during the programme allegedly featuring Chief Oby Ndukwe, President of Citizens Quest. In the clip, a voice attributed to Ndukwe thanked Sandra Duru for financial support, which was reportedly sourced from Senate President Akpabio, in return for defending him during a Channels Television interview.
Motivated by Conscience
When asked why he chose to go public, Obinna stated that his decision was driven by conscience, not financial motive. He emphasized his readiness to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in any investigation related to the case.
He also alleged that Duru boasted about having the backing of Senate President Akpabio and accused her of maintaining a pattern of secretly recording conversations to later use them for blackmail purposes.
The revelations add a new layer of complexity to an already heated public dispute and may prompt official investigations into the matter, particularly regarding the misuse of media platforms for political and personal vendettas.
