Over 250,000 Kogi Central Constituents Petition INEC to Recall Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan

Lokoja, Nigeria – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has received a petition from constituents of Kogi Central Senatorial District seeking the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from the National Assembly.
The petition, submitted on Monday at INEC’s office in Lokoja, was signed by over 250,000 registered voters—more than half of the 480,000 voters in the district—meeting the constitutional requirement for a recall process.
Led by Ms. Charity Ijese, the group accused the senator of “gross misconduct, abuse of office, and deceitful behavior,” claiming her actions have undermined public trust and tarnished the integrity of the Senate.

Titled “Constituents’ Petition for the Recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on Grounds of Loss of Confidence,” the document cites Section 69 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and INEC’s recall guidelines.
The petitioners acknowledged that Akpoti-Uduaghan assumed office in October 2024 following a Court of Appeal ruling but insisted her conduct since then has been unsatisfactory.
“We demand INEC immediately commence the constitutional process to remove her and declare the seat vacant,” the petition stated.
Speaking to journalists after submitting the petition, Ijese affirmed their resolve to pursue the recall, which INEC must conclude within 90 days of submission.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has yet to publicly respond to the allegations.
