The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Yunusa Isa, for the brutal murder of his business partner, Lawan Adamu, to avoid repaying a ₦500,000 loan. The incident occurred on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at the outskirts of Nayi Nawa bypass in Damaturu.
The 28-year-old victim, Lawan Adamu, was found dead with deep throat cuts and multiple stab wounds. A blood-stained knife was also recovered at the scene.
The police spokesperson, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, revealing that Yunusa Isa initially denied involvement in the murder. However, after thorough interrogation by the State CID detectives, Isa eventually confessed to the crime.
Investigations revealed that the victim, Lawan Adamu, had lent Yunusa Isa ₦500,000 a year earlier under a profit-sharing agreement related to their engine oil business. When Isa failed to honor the agreement, Adamu demanded repayment, leading to the tragic murder. Isa killed Adamu to escape repaying the debt.
The police commended their team for swiftly resolving the case, reaffirming their commitment to justice and public safety.
